Brian Nichols Case--
It was broadcast here in ATL on all the prime channels. He was found guilty on 54 separate counts. They just got done reading them individually, and he has received 7 life sentences for armed robbery with an additional 485 years for the other counts. HOWEVER, they havent announced the 4 murder counts yet, so i am sure that will add a nice chunk the total.
the decision that has to be made is whether the judge will give him the option of parole, which i hope he doesnt.
what i dont understand is...."Why on earth didnt the jury give him a unanimous dealth penalty....." There were 3 jury members that opted for no death penalty, and i dont know why....
I'll update this when i find out about the last 4 counts
UPDATE: The court found him guilty on the 4 murder counts, with a maximum sentence of Life without parole.
GRAND TOTAL: 11 life sentences (4 without parole), plus 485 years.
Certainly, some kind of history had to be made today. Very sad day for the Nichols family, but for others it is certainly a day of closure for this case.

Some people believe that the death penalty does not provide deterrence to future murders from happening, some believe it's immoral and unconstitutional, and some believe it takes too much resources.

yeh, but it takes a lot more resources for the tax payers to lay out all that money to keep him alive until he fizzes out. and they will put him in solitary confinement because they cant put him with anybody else, so he will have other amenities that others dont, which is more tax dollars...

This has been big news in Atlanta ever since it happened.
It was unlikely he would have received the death penalty in the county he was tried in though.
