Source for Supplies?
I'm just getting back into collecting and wondering where to purchase things like boxes, sleeves, cardholders, etc? When I was a kid, there were several card shops. I now live in Northern VA, and there do not seem to be many stores left. Are there online sources you would recommend for supplies? What about for purchases of hobby boxes, new and old?
Also, any suggestions on a 'starter kit' of materials I should put together? As kids, everything went into 800 count boxes. Only our most expensive cards went into rigid holders, and we never had penny sleeves.
Finally, what do you use to package cards being sent to someone else for trade, particularly if you are sending more than 1-2 cards to one person? I understand a bubble mailer is a good start, but what to put the cards in, inside the mailer?
Thanks,
Mark

When sending cards, you put the cards in penny sleeves, then top-loaders, and you tape the top of the top-loader shut and put them in the bubble mailer. For bubble mailers you're going to want to get them at someplace like Target, Wal-Mart, or Costco. Penny sleeves and top-loaders can be found at a local card shop or online (eBay).
You'll want to get a couple of 1,000 or 5,000 count boxes depending on how many commons you have. Your good cards should be kept in a penny sleeve and top-loader.
For hobby boxes go to dacardworld.com, in my opinion they have the cheapest boxes and free shipping this time of year. Any other individual cards you want you can trade or buy them here on SCF or eBay. For more materials you can also go to the Bay.
I hope this helped a little. Welcome back to the hobby!

Thanks! I found most of what I need at https://www.dacardworld.com but what about cardboard boxes? I could not find those on the website, and again, there are no local vendors around here. Anybody order these online?

No problem. eBay is also a quick, cheap way to get boxes.
PM if you have any questions or want to trade, I'm always ready to help!

Hey I live in Northen VA too. I go to Collector's corner in Sterling, VA to buy top loaders but they recently raised the price 25 cents (it is 2.25 a pack now).
We have a card shop thread too, so maybe there's one listed in there that is close to you.
As for mailing, if mailing more than 2 cards, you can sandwich cards in top loaders. So what I mean is put all the cards in penny sleeves, then you can put 2 cards in between 2 other cards that are in top loaders and seal it in a team bag. That's what I do most of the time.
