POLL: Greatest Bass Player - RUNOFF
For the greatest bassist, we ended up with a three-way tie. Paul McCartney finished a close 4th with four votes and John Entwistle, Les Claypool, and Flea tied at the top with five votes each. So we have to find a winner, vote for your pick for the greatest out of the three.
We'll only let this go for a couple of days or so.

Where's Geddy Lee? Cliff Burton? Jaco Pastorius?

Geddy Lee was on the original list that this is a runoff from...you didn't vote for him then and neither did anyone else, so he didn't make the runoff.
Cliff Burton was #30 on the list I derived the original list from, so he didn't make the cut. Pastorius almost did, but the wind didn't blow his way apparently.
These three all tied on the orginal poll and we're trying to decide which one wins...that's why there are only three.

end it now ... Les Claypool of Primus hands down without a doubt is the best of all time. If you have or will listen to Primus some of the bass lines he plays are just insane crazy. If I was starting a "super band" ... Claypool would be my Bass player no doubt about it!!
thats just my opinion though

No doubt Les is a bad man, Primus has some of the best and most pronounced bass riffs ever. But the other two aren't shabby either. I think we did a good job of picking the top 3, any one of these guys could take the title and represent it well.

I didn't vote for him because even he isn't the best, Pastorius is a lot better, and since he wasn't there i didn't bother voting. I would like to know where you got your little list from

You said in the thread you voted for Steve Harris?
The list, as with all the lists involved with these musician polls, was derived from lists on DigitalDreamDoor.com. DDD is the site with the most comprehensive and objective lists I've found so far. Just about every other list is one or a few people listing their favorites and calling them "the best ever." And as with all lists, there will always be people who disagree...

Yeah, i did vote for Harris, i remember now, the guy is a true musician. It depends on what you are basing "best ever". Flea wouldn't even really be in the top 10, Les is a great player though.
