Autograph Experiment Open to all!

Just recently I found a book in a used bookstore called Basebal Americas Baseball Address List. It was printe in 1996 so I expect many of the home addy's are outdated. I wanted to test my theory and sent a card to Lindy McDaniel (I sent a 2001 Topps Archive card that has a facimile auto on it because I thought it would be cool for comparison purposes) I was surprised when 3 weeks later he sent me my card back signed and the 2 autos look identical. Have not tried anymore but if someone would like an addy I will see what I can do.

SASE's are highly recommended and usually allow for a greater return success rate

Does anyone have any sample letter or autograph request templates? These would really help the community. I wii try to write one this weekend.

I use a short and simple letter for all my requests. Because think about it, if you're a player and you get thousands of requests a week, you probably dont read them anyhow, and if you do, you dont have time to read an essay.

Here is the exact letter I've used to get all of my 100+ autos

Dear Mr. (Player Name),

I think you are a great (player, outfielder, closer, etc.)
May I please have your autograph?
Thank you very much
Sincerely,
(Your Name)

Thats it. Its worked for me hundreds of times. Some sites say stuff like "insert a memorable moment from their career". No, no. Its extra work for you and extra work for them. It wont help you get any additional responses.

I write my letter on small "scratch pads" so they dont have to be folded to fit inside a #10 envelope. I include that, 1 or 2 cards or index cards of the player, (more than 2 makes you look greedy, or that your going to sell them), a "invitation" size SASE (3 5/8 in. by 6 1/2 in.), and thats it. If anyone doesnt know what a SASE is, its a Self Addressed Stamped Envelope. Basically, you just write your name on a small envelope and stick a stamp on it. (HELPFUL HINT: Put a Return address label with your name on it as well, that way, if anything goes wrong, the auto will be delivered anyway) The SASE allows the player to just stick the auto in the SASE, seal it and mail it, with no cost to them. Never send a request without a SASE.

Always bring your patience when sending out requests. I just got a Chipper Jones signed 4x6 from a request I sent 2 years ago! It may take a long time for you to get your auto.

When addressing the envelope, do it like this:

Player Name
c/o Team Name
Team Address
