I can answer this one - Because regular coke leaves a residual sugar taste in your mouth that within minutes begins to grow abnormally huge bacteria cultures - leading to that nasty aftertaste. Diet Coke, however, has no sugar, and for those of us who were born without a sweet tooth and are mindful to avoid halitosis - diet does the trick.
Bottom line: Coke, and any regular soda, is just too overpoweringly sugar-ridden.

BUT! Diet Coke has aspartame in it which is watered-down formaldahyde (sp?) I believe. It's something like that anyway....can't remember what it is exactly....so don't bash me if I'm wrong
