Sporting events and hard economic times

Recently I have been attending A LOT of minor league/ lower level sports games this past year. As opposed to going to 5-6 Chicago Cubs games a year I went to 2 this year (one was for free) and found myself making more trips to Schaumberg Illinois to watch the independent league Flyers baseball games or Kane County Cougars game of the single A midwest league. I am a die hard Cubs fan but I really cant see myself forking over 60 to 100 bucks to sit in the bleachers when the face value of the ticket is only $45 (dang supply and demand).

I also have been taking in more minor league hockey in the Chicago Wolves, for 33 bucks I get seats 4 rows behind the glass which you cant beat with a stick since the Blackhawks would cost you atleast $400 +.

I might not be seeing "star athletes" but then again im not going broke to see one game and with times getting rougher right now I feel I should hold on to my hard earned money.

I have pretty much given up on NASCAR races since their a fortune as well, im perfectly content with the local short track up the road from me as a whooping 6 bucks a seat. I just have a constent fear that tomorrow could be my last day on the job (although I know its not since they just hired me on permenantly) and what would front row tickets get me if I couldnt make that money up working? Am I just becoming a cheap skate or do I atleast make some sense in my penny pinching?

I guess the main reason im writting this is to see where other people weigh in on the subject and how this economic crunch is effecting their sporting event turn out.

Same boat here. I will attend a few more local college events this year. Will likely skip the Braves for the first time in many, many years. Will likey only make one race instead of the three we usually do.

For NASCAR fans......check out ALMS as an alternative if they visit near you. you won't be dissapointed ;)
