Nets-Blazers
Well, my son had fun. And I confirmed four things:
1. The Nets stink.
2. I would not want Vince Carter anywhere near my favorite team.
3. I can't enjoy watching an NBA team without a good point guard.
4. There are very few competent coaches.
At least my son had fun. He kept looking for the Nets mascot (which is, for reasons unknown to me, a fox) and playing with the thunder sticks. It was his first game, so it was a good overall experience.
The crowd was awful (it was really cold, maybe that was an excuse - also the parking deck is a disaster and there's almost no public transportation), and the only loud ones were the Blazers fans (and there were a lot of those).
I have no idea how the game was that close. The Nets seem to have one defense - collapse and leave someone wide open on the wing. Once Nate McMillan figured that out (late in the third quarter - I don't think he was watching the game), it was over for the Nets. Also, nobody could guard Bayless or Roy - they were the only exciting guys to watch. Roy and Aldridge played a good two-man game, and Roy penetrated well.
Harris played pretty well for the Nets, and had some nice passes, but when he was out there and Vince Carter brought the ball up, you could see the rest of the team just getting in position to rebound. I can't stand watching him play.
Brook Lopez played well too, but they stopped going to him when they realized he was actually playing well. The rest of the team was just bad. Rushed shots, lazy defense, all the marks of a bad team. Not Knicks-level bad, but bad nonetheless.

You were cheering for the Nets I assume? They have a good PG though - Devin Harris...although he isn't a true PG really....well, glad your son had fun! :-)

I wasn't rooting for either team - really couldn't care less who won, and I like Roy, so I was split.
And Harris isn't a PG at all - that's the issue. Neither is Roy really, but he ran the offense more like a PG than I expected.

Harris and Roy are both very good players, but neither are PGs, yet they play PG more times than now (Harris always, Roy sometimes).

Harris brings the ball up, but doesn't play a lot of PG. There aren't too many real PGs left, unfortunately.

Steve Blake is a true PG, but he doesn't have the talent level many other players have, so he has to make up for it with smarts. I actually really like him as a player; doesn't make too many dumb mistakes.

Agreed. I loved him in college (still remember a random play he made to steal the ball from the Duke PG when Coach K was relaying a play). Unfortunately he wasn't in the game last night.

I have nets season tickets and was also at this game.... I have been to probably over 50 nets games and i tend to agree with you I HATE VC... I know plenty of nets fans that have the same opinion as me so when you hear the applaue for carter during the lineups its from all the fans getting the free tickets... i dont know how but there playing better at this point of the year then they were last year.

Hey, I had free tickets - don't lump me in with them :)
They've played better than expected, but they're still a pretty crappy team, like most of the teams in the east. Lopez is looking better and better though.
