Yeah, actually my second sentence in the very first posting specifically states that we aren't talking about that.... we are more discussing the differences assigned to us genetically or socially... and why it is taboo to recognize those differences.

I find the "let's all act, think, and look alike as much as possible" brand of "equality" to be very boring, and not something to strive for constantly. We have more than enough people succumbing to peer pressure so they can fit whatever is considered desirable in current popular culture.

I believe in equality. 100%. But equality can only go so far.

I believe that ALL (race, color, sex, and whatever) should start out equal, but that's when it should end. We start equal, that's it. I dont think that any person should get any special treatment based on their physical characteristics other than mental character or their work ethics.

To me when someone talks about equality it's not about people be exactly the same nor does it mean that we shouldn't celebrate differences. It means that no matter what race or sex one is that they have the same rights in life.

The difference is equality of opportunity can be enforced, as the ability to achieve something (or the equal opportunity of everyone to have the chance to do so) implies the use of institutions (schools, businesses) or mechanisms available to us through the structure of society. These situations can be controlled by anti-discriminatory laws, for example.

As for social equality, that cannot be completely controlled. Everyone is free to attempt or achieve anything under law, which includes the freedom to think whatever we want of others from a social standpoint. When it comes to actions, yes those are controlled. However, the underlying social attitudes and prejudices still exist, and cannot be substantially manipulated past the point of equality in opportunity.

equality , here are my thoughts, Let me work and live my life and leave me alone. I dont care what color you are or your race or your sexual preference is and I dont want to hear about it. Equality, not everyone is equal so get used to it. Im sick of hearing about your cause and how you are a victim and not treated equal. i think social equality is fine in this country, im in high school and it's mostly white people but out homecoming king the last 3 years has been black...

Can you cite any other examples why you think social equality is fine, besides the homecoming king in your school has been black the last 3 years...
