I can tell you that Sports Illustrated is selling original copies, that you can buy directly from them, for the $250-300 range.
The good thing about buying direct is that most likely, the issue will be about as mint as you can find.
A bit about the first issue...on the cover is Braves slugger Eddie Matthews. Included with the issue was an uncut sheet of Topps cards, including a Ted Williams. The cards are exactly like the ones Topps produced for that year. For those of us who can't afford a vintage Ted Williams card, this is an affordable way to go.
Recently, Sports Illustrated reprinted the issue, and sold it with a book, and a voucher good for 6 months worth of free issues. Not sure how they made the issue so you know its a reprint, so be carefull and look closely before you buy one.
Hope this information helps you out!

Also SI First Issue and thru Issue 6
Someone mentioned that the baseball cards are exactly like the ones Topps sold that year. Would it be woth more to sell those cards seperatley or all together in the SI Issue?

I believe the cards are on thinner stock than the original Topps cards. I would not advise taking these cards out but rather selling everything together.

Exactly right John- I'd suggest sending the whole sheet in to get graded rather than destroying the cards while in the process of taking them out of the magazine, if thats possible, or better yet, get the whole magazine graded!!!!

Graded?
Dan,
I am new at this stuff. What do you mean, by "send it in to be graded"?
