    Form letter to spring training???

has anyone had success with sending a typed letter to players? I have always hand written letters (especially to ones I REALLY WANT) But, I have found about 20 former Phillies players that are now coaches around the MLB ranks. I figure that coaches dont recieve as much mail as players and should have a good rate of return with them. Does anyone feel like a typed letter is too informal and against everything sacred with the hobby? This list does not even get into the players I would like to send to so I am thinking about 50+ letters in the next 2 weeks!

If anyone collects Phils autos, let me know and I can send you the list of former Phils that are coaching and what team. I KNOW THERE ARE A FEW OUT THERE!!!

Let me know what the concensus on form letters is so I dont lose cards and waste postage.

All of my letters have been typed due to my handwriting. My kindergarden teacher rolls over in her grave when I put a pen to paper.

I always write mine, especially if your sending to a coach it might be better to write, because they might have more time to read it

thanks guys, I have started writing a few tonight.

    So far...

    Mike Maddux (texas rangers)
    Brad Moore (red sox)
    Ivan DeJesus (cubs)
    ANdy Van Slyke (tigers)
    John Russell (pirates)
    Larry Bowa (dodgers)
    Tom Foley (rays)
    lee tinsley (mariners)
    darrell akerfelds ( padres)
    roger mcdowell (braves)
    milt thompson (phillies)
    Pete Mackanin (phillies)
    charlie Manuel (philies)
    Dwayne Murphy (bluejays)
    Rick Schu (dbacks)
    Mariano duncan (dodgers)

these are all coaches so I am expecting good turnout. I am going to start on some select players later this week. Mostly Phils prospects invited to camp.

Keep this string going, let us know who you may be sending to.
I have 13 more phormer Phils that I have found so far. Then, I got to get started on players.

i really like your phillies project, its too bad they almost all send the pp auto back when you send to the current ones, i have got back from shane and cole, only shane's looks legitimate, and i am not even positive if it is

thanks for always keeping up with just about everything on here. yea, since I started collecting again, I have got almost 60-70 autos back. Many are not very big names but the project that I have going is coming together. ANy photos that I send, go in the office/den. ANy cards that I get back signed are becoming a border in my son's room. Kinda like a chair rail about 4 ft. off the ground. It is starting to look pretty cool but have much work to do. I have included doubles when I get back multiple cards from a player. I have picked up quite a bit of collections off craigs list and found tons of cards in there. Most 80's 90's and today. I really need to expand to the 70's and 60's cuz I am getting sooo many doubles. I thnk I have over 500 different players that have worn the Phils pinstripes. (that includes many from the scranton AAA team and Reading AA team.)

Those players are darn near impossible to locate but may be a project when I run short of people to send to.

I really got to get a camera and post some of my successes. My favorite, Sparky anderson 5x7 in a phils uni!!!

I hear he stopped signing recently due to health, take care sparky!!!

Nice project! I love the border idea. I hope you do not mind, but I marked the ones I knew signed in the past from your list. Best of luck with the project. One not to miss that is a hit or miss in ST is Tony Perez c/o Marlins. Dale Murphy signs c/o home and I am sure that you are well aware that Rose has been signing lately c/o addy in Vegas. Best of luck and keep us updated. I am sure that I should have some Phillies doubles from IPs when Scranton was their team in the International League and also TTMs. Maybe we can trade some doubles someday.

I'm pretty sure I have seen Mike Maddux successes in the past. I think Akerfelds is traditionally a good signer too.

I just sent to Maddux c/o the Rangers so we'll see what happens. I sent to Roger McDowell in ST too and haven't gotten anything. Either way I'll be trying him again c/o Braves before long for my Triple Play set.
