    WNBA: Storm waive Sheryl Swoopes

SEATTLE (AP)—Sheryl Swoopes may have played her last game.

The Seattle Storm waived the three-time WNBA MVP and three-time Olympic gold medalist a day before her 2009 contract would have become guaranteed. Swoopes is 37 and might now pursue something she’s talked about since September—coaching and being a full-time mother.

Coach Brian Agler says the weekend move was made to clear space under the $803,000 salary cap. Lauren Jackson could be leaving soon as an unrestricted free agent. Center Yolanda Griffith, another former league MVP, turns 39 next month after a season in which she had knee and ankle problems.

Wow, she is one of the longest-tenured WNBA players now. She has had a productive career, with 4 rings and 3 MVPs. One of the all-time great WNBA players!

One thing, that I never realized, was the WNBA salary cap - only $803,000? NBA's cap is about $55 million...quite a difference!

I'm going to go cry now...

HOW IN THE HELL could the Storm waive one of the all time best WNBA players!?!?!?

The only bright side I see to this...with Sheryl wanting to become a coach, perhaps she might want to think about moving to the east coast. With the passing of our beloved Kay Yow, my Lady Wolfpack could benefit from her experience.

Guess it's time for her to retire. She's had a great career though.

Yeah...still sad tho. Lisa Leslie announced that she is retiring after the upcoming season.
