    Your nationalities

Have you ever looked into your family tree to see where your family came from?

My dad's family is big into genealogy - they have books about it and can trace their family all the way back to Scotland in the 1600s. I'm about 20% Scottish, 20% English, 5% Swedish, and 5% Iroquois on my dad's side.

Mom's family came here in the early 20th century through Ellis Island. From her side, I'm about 25% Russian (various ethnicities), 20% German, and 5% Norwegian.

My dads side (last name Churchward) is Welsh. I'm not sure though at what point they came over to the States.

My moms side (last name van Ryn) is Dutch. My mom's grandparents came over to the States through Ellis Island in the early 1900's. We're actually distantly related to Rembrandt, famous Dutch painter. His last name, van Rijn, was my Great-Grand Parents last name until they came through Ellis Island and were forced to change it to something more "American."

My dad is 100% Italain (last name Negri) and my mom is 100% German (maiden name Moyer). So safe to say I am 50% Italain and 50% German.

Heh...my mom's family had to do something similar. They actually took the surname of an Irish valet they met (Bolger) since their name was exceptionally long (my mom once saw it in an old book they owned - it was in Cyrilic and started with what looked like a "B," but she estimates it had probably about 20 characters in length; obviously difficult to Americanize that).

I don't know anyone else who is a Dutch/Welsh mix. According to the census, most American Caucasians show dominance of German, Irish, and English ancestry:

A stat of note: Those claiming simply "American" tend to be Southern and are primarily the group of Scotch/Irish, who otherwise account for 5 million or so members in the Census.

Not sure of the percentages in the pedigree but I do know that my family name originates from the Alsace region of Europe and the largest giant slalom course in the Swiss Alps is named after my family.

Both of my parents are 100% Mexican, as are my grandparents. My parents were both born in Mexico and migrated here in the 60's for college.

I'm not too certain of my family's genealogy though, but if I were to guess, I would say a Mexican line back to some time when the Spanish had arrived there. Would be interesting to find out.

Both of my parents are Romanian, all 4 grandparents are Romanian, and I'm pretty sure all my great-grandparents were Romanian. I'm the first one in my family born in the States. I truly lack originality! :D

My grandparents are English and Scottish origins on my mother's side. On my father's side they are French (Canadian) and German. I believe the French Canadian goes all the way back to Natives in Canada and I'm a very small part Native American from the French Canadian area.
