    Rare vintage set completed

1977-78 Topps was printed on two kinds of cardstock: gray and white. So there are two versions of all 132 cards in the set. Beckett claims the white-backed versions are rarer, but they are wrong. Personal experience has taught me that the gray-backed versions are disproportionately rare. Most sellers I've asked about them had tons of the white '77s but none, or at most only a handful, of the gray '77s, and some didn't even know they existed. When I started working on completing the set, I had the white version set completed in about two months. But it's taken me six years to complete the gray version. So here it is:

Here's a side-to-side comparison of what the two versions look like, using the star players as reference:

Congratulations! Well deserved! You are the man!

I have a set of the white version and now you make me think I need the gray version set as well! I don't think I need another 6 year set though! I, too, never knew there were two versions...

Thanks for the info and thanks for sharing!

Nice. What's the overall condition of your set? Can't remember if my Dr. J is white or gray. I'll have to check it out later.
