Movie Remakes
Just saw a listing of movie remakes that will take place, some include:
Back to School
Karate Kid
Red Dawn
The Evil Dead
Fame
Footloose
Short Circuit
Tron
Bonnie and Clyde
Here is my question, is there that much lack of creativity from companies to just keep making remakes of movies we all enjoyed when we were younger? I understand maybe trying to modernize a movie or trying to give a franchise new life by introducing it to a younger generation, but in the case of a movies like Karate Kid and Bonnie and Clyde, the originals are just so well done and those people are pretty much forever linked to the characters that a remake would seem to fall short. What are you thoughts?

A couple years ago we went and saw the Halloween remake. It wasnt nearly as good as the original...and a lot scarier. Theres also a Friday the 13th remake coming out next Friday.

Yeah, the Halloween remake was great, that is one of the rare cases where the remake is as good, if not better than the original. I can't wait for the new Friday the 13th, but it's different than the original, since the killer is Jason right off the bat, and in the original it was his mother

I dont see how anyone could remake Red Dawn. Who the heck has the capability to invade the U.S.??? Are they going to make it about illegal aliens? :-)

Well I think the companies see that a lot of people that enjoyed these movies back then have grown up and they're banking on them possibly wanting a blast from the past so to speak. Can't really blame them for trying but it does come across as a lack of creativity and in some cases that is pretty much the case.
I do enjoy a good remake but not that many live up to the originals.

thats my view on it too, some are good, but a lot of them don't pan out like the originals. Could it also be that since we grew up watchingn these movies that we always relate the actors to that character, and thus always compare them to the original? Case in point, can anyone honestly say that they don't think of Christopher Reeves when someone brings up a Superman movie? Or Ralph Machio as Daniel in Karate Kid?

Yes, but if the current generation of kids is being raised on remakes of older movies, who will they have to rleate to when they get older?
In the 80's we had Han Solo, Superman, Indiana Jones, etc...
Who does the new generation have?

Exactly, there haven't been a lot movies that can be called generation defining movies.
