Exactly my thoughts. I'm going to have to do some heavy eating to keep them afloat. My friend and I helped them turn a profit when we were in college.

Most of those aren't very surprising...either bad business models (Chrysler, Rite Aid) or luxury items in a time of economic cutback (Six Flags, Krispy Kreme, Sirius). The one that does surprise me is Blockbuster. I would think they would be doing relatively well right now, as it's cheap entertainment. I can see movie theaters losing a lot of business, but I would think rentals would come out ok as the cheap alternative.

I'm worried about Chrysler and it's situation. I'm a Dodge man and, while I don't think the Dodge brand will actually die off, I'm worried about what it may be reincarnated into.

The thing is, in a time in our world when convenience and availability are king, Blockbuster is getting smashed by guys like Netflix and RedBox. It's truly surprising to see such a monster business going under but as our society gets more lazy, no one wants to browse through a movie store anymore. It's all about convenience and going to a store, waiting in line, and then having to return the movie to the store just isn't "convenient" anymore (sadly).

But the thing is, Blockbuster has Blockbuster Online...it's better than Netflix. You get a movie in the mail just like Netflix, except when you're done, you return it to a Blockbuster store, they mail it back for you, and you get a free in-store rental while you wait for your next mail rental to come...at least that's the way it was when I had it. I absolutely loved it, you have the convenience of Netflix without having to wait for another one to come in the mail. I only gave it up because we had kids and I rarely get the time to watch one movie, let alone enough to make it worth a membership.

Blockbuster closed down in my home town last year. I agree with the previous response that Netflix has killed them and the mom and pops usually offer a cheaper alternative.

Mom and pops didn't for a long time, maybe it's changing some now. There used to be small video stores everywhere, but when Blockbuster started growing, they quickly began to disappear because they couldn't compete with selection, availability, or price. I used to work for a couple who had owned a very successful video store, but when the chains started moving in, they couldn't compete and had to shut down and change careers.

Well Netflix stepped it's game up in the past couple of months. I just got Netflix last month because they allow me to stream shows and movies onto my television. If you have an XBOX360 you can stream it to watch anything on the Netflix site has to offer.
Most people don't want to waste gas to rent a movie anymore and it's less than 10 bucks for unlimited DVD rentals a month. I received like 9 movies last month.
