    Smudged cards... :(

I've been getting a lot of smudged cards back lately and I've also heard a lot about rubbing down cards. How exactly is this done? I just erase the entire card? Won't this create marks on the card, like skid marks? Is there a certain kind of eraser? Thanks in advance for any help, this site has been ridiculously helpful in my TTM successes.

What I do, is take some baby powder and rub it all around the card, it works perfectly. I have even gotten chrome cards signed by it. Eraser works too though.

baby powder is great to use, and the erasers do create "skid marks"

So what exactly do you do with baby powder? Like detailed instructions, because I've never heard of that approach.

All you do is take a little bit of baby powder and put it on the card. Take your finger and rub it all around the card-make sure you get the whole card because you don't know where they are going to sign it. hope that helps.

I use mechanical erasers and there are never any skid marks or problems. I used to use baby powder but got sick of the mess.

I had a 08 topps set of the cardinals and was at training camp last summer. I didnt rub down the cards and the autos came out horrible. I remembered the baby powder trick, and since I had my 8 mos old twins with me, there was plenty of powder. Worked great for the rest of the autos.

Thank god fitzgerald, Leinert, and Warner hadnt come by before I remembered to rub the powder.

    Have fun

I have tried both but think I like the baby powder more.

Hope all your cards come back signed by the greats of the game!!
