They should be locked. Hope you get them. Are you ine the school board or are you the principal. If not I don't know what you can do with a video if cameras are not allowed on the school

I work at a gym. The most stolen item is the iPod. Rarely go a week without at least one walking off from a treadmill, unlocked locker, or wherever. Oddly enough, when we DO find one (they are the most LOST item other than perhaps water bottles), they rarely get picked up or claimed. Locked up in the back right now, we have a dozen or so iPods without any name or contact info. We usually end up donating them to charity after 6 months.
Moral of the story: never leave your iPod anywhere at a gym. It will not be there when you go to pick it up.

I keep telling my daughter to stop bringing it to school. No need for it there. She had one stolen a while back. You think she would listen.
Good luck with your attempt to catch the thief.

the lockers are too small for my stuff. about one foot by one foot. i usually keep mine locked up but i quit bringing it since the spike in stolen goods went up and after one day i went in there and my backpack was halfway unzipped in like all the pockets
but today my pal didnt press the camera record button right and it never recorded. i dont think anything happend anyway. we leave the camera locked in his locker peeking out. we'll try again tomoro, lol.
