Yeah I watched a little bit of it and I agree. I'm in the NC part of Appalachia and it's the same way. Yes there are plenty of people in bad situations (a lot of them self-inflicted by the way), but it's nowhere near as bad as it's often portrayed and believed to be. It's actually a great, beautiful place to live and I wouldn't trade it for anywhere...except maybe Wyoming/Montana.

I was watching some of that and thought it was kind of interesting, but I realize that's not representative of most of the area.

Why would they make things seem worse than they are? I don't get it.. does it make people more interested in the story? You can't believe anything on tv..

Sensationalism. The media has a knack for exagerating everything, good and bad. It's all about the ratings, who cares how accurate it is.

yeah i really am not a fan of 20/20....they did a piece a bit ago on this cop that was "having his way" with woman and didnt get caught for the longest while and they said one day they found a slip up and never told the viewers what the slip up was....stupid.....

I live around the eastern tip in the coalfields and i work and am doing fine.... 20/20 forgot to mention that we have a guiness world record for most milionares living in the same community...... I think we also have the most millionares in the same county also, Pike County.............80% got rich during the coal boom here......

On the other hand there are some people who dont have enough and a lot of it is there fault because they wont work etc...

Wow, I didn't realize that. That is an awful convenient fact to leave out.

That's just generalizing - it'd be like if someone said that you live in France, so you are French, or just because I live in Minnesota means that I like lutefisk. I don't like when people assume, or whatever you want to call this.
