This has to be good news for NBA fans worried Panini would ruin basketball cards - at least now you have the Donruss team so you know what to expect based on their recent football releases. This also very likely increases the chance that Donruss will get the MLB lisence back in the future... i hope....

Actually, I think it hurts any chance of Donruss getting the MLB license again. Since Topps and UD cannot do licensed NBA cards starting in October, this means they have more money to invest towards the other sports. Should baseball decide to go with one company in the future, they will pull out the stops to outbid Panini/DLP. Baseball is about tradition and since Topps has been around the longest, I would expect MLB to accept a reasonable offer from Topps before anyone else.

MLB has sued Donruss in the past, so their relationship is far from friendly. If anything I could see MLB going to one license vice to three.Last edited by mikesilvia; 03-14-2009 at 09:43 AM.

Problem is Topps has no resources compared to UD. Of course the tradition would create a long line of anger if Topps lost their license and they truly did bid and lost out. It not going to be pretty but I could easily see one. Topps, makes most of their money of their confectionery products than they do cards. Also, unlike the other companies they have a ton of licenses for non traditional sports, games, fad's, etc.
As with all things will be fun to see who this all plays out. As it is history being made.
