i think it's funny that almost all the ppl who posted NEVER seen any of the movies, but yet they can comment on all of them?????....i have seen almost all of them and the messages behind them are actually very good and clean.....which seems to be missing in alot of movies geared towards this "certian demographic". IMO.

From what I've seen of him he's a great guy and definitely derserves the success he's obtained, and even respect for accomplishing what he has...but not necessarily as a great filmmaker. I agree, Rockman, that IMDB ratings aren't always what I think they should be, but they're generally pretty close, especially on bad movies. And I also agree, xnamyeknomx, that it's good his movies have a good message as a lot of movies geared at any demographic don't...but having a good message doesn't necessarily mean it's a good movie.
I have no problem with his success, I love seeing people come from nothing and be successful. But to say someone with his body of work deserves respect as a film-maker is a little far fetched I think.

but having a good message doesn't necessarily mean it's a good movie.
But you said you have never seen any of his movies, so how do you know??
This day and age sucess is measured by how much $$ you make, not by how many people like it. IMO

I'm just basing it on the reviews I've seen...if most of your movies are rated in the 3s out of 10, most likely they're not going to be Oscar winners.
That's true in pretty much every day and age. Success = makes money. But being successful and being good aren't necessarily the same thing. Just because a movie makes a lot of money doesn't automatically make it a good movie. Tyler Perry has been very successful and congrats to him for it...but that doesn't mean he's a good filmmaker. Hollywood doesn't care about making quality films anymore, they just want to make popcorn entertainment that appeals to the largest group of people so they can make the most money. That's why most of the big movies now are either sequels, remakes, or ripoffs of other movies.

You are basing your opinion off of others OPINIONS (reviews), you can't always go by what other people say.....i've seen plenty of movies where ppl said they sucked, and I went and saw it and actually liked it. All im saying is that you need to see them before you can make a SOUND decision on weather or not it is a junky movie, and not base it off of what someone else thought. It's like this.......lets say people said that this years SPA football was the WORST product ever made.....you go and buy a box or 2 of the stuff because you want to see for yourself, you do AMAZING....are you going to tell ppl it is the worst or the best?? either way you had to find out on your own, and not rely on what others say. Sorry my reply is so long:)

It's all good and I see what you're saying, but I'm looking at it as a majority opinion. I'm sure there are some people who love his movies, but the general consensus is what counts overall.
Taking your example, if you see 10 SPA box breaks and 7 say it's terrible and 3 say it's the best, overall it's not going to be the best product. Yes, some people will love it and that's great for them, but the majority don't think so. There are definitely some movies I like that almost no one else does, but I realize if I'm one of the few people that like them, they're probably not the best movies.
We're just looking at it two different ways. You're looking at it on the individual level, which may vary from person to person, and I'm looking at the consensus, which gives a general overall view of it.
