Some general tips to use when looking at patches on Ebay.

If the user ID is kept private, then it's likely a fake...that's so the seller can make sure that no one tells the bidders they're bidding on a fake.

If the patch looks too good to be true, it likely is.

Make sure the patch fits the time period of the card. For example, I saw a listing where a known patch faker put a patch that wasn't worn by the player until 2006 onto a card from 2005.

Watch out for numbering on a card. Most patches are generally low #'d, even if it is a solid color patch. Be weary of patches #"d any higher than /50. There are exceptions to this rule, but watch yourself as you go higher and higher.

Do a little research to see if patches were included in the release of that particular set. You can either pick up a beckett, or check other eBay listings. If you don't find any more patches, it's a good bet that it's a fake.

Patch fakers generally target GU cards with large Game-Used windows. For example: 05 Prime Patches, 05 Absolute Memorabilia, etc etc. While I've seen even the smallest of Game-Used being faked, it's much easier for the faker to use a large windowed card.

Also, most GU patches (virtually all made after 2003) will say Game-Used Jersey Prime or Game-Used Patch...so when looking at an 05 Absolute Memorabilia patch card, if it doesn't say one of those, it's a fake.

Correct. but im gonna add another one:

Generally patch fakers put the patch so it covers up the entire window. A lot of the time if the card is say half jersey and half patch (no matter how sick) it is real.(based on surface area)

Maybe I don't have a clue, but do they cut the card to place the patch in there? or cut and paste?
