I collect Paul Kariya, when I started he was only a couple of years into the league. But now that I have a collection of nearly 400 items(mostly cards), its lil' hard to stop collecting him, even if his value is dropping every year.

The easiest way to deal with this 'problem' is to become a college collector. I collect any and all former Rutgers players who wind up with cards, to varying degrees. There are definately some guys (LJ Smith on the Eagles) on teams I don't like who I collect on a casual basis only. If the ONLY reason you collect a guy is because he is on your favorite professional team, then this will be a constant problem for you, it's better to have a more permanant reason (for me the college connection) to collect for your PC. Anyway - good luck!

I agree about the fav. team, because you will have 5-6 players you'll want to collect, the 3 guys i collect in baseball all went to the HS i go to now. that way even if they get traded I could care less.

I collect Antoine Walker since he is cheap, has lots of cards (most of which are still reasonably attainable), and I've always liked his game even though he has a lot of people who dislike him

I collect Adam Morrison since I still have hopes he may be similar to my all-time favorite NBA player, Rex Chapman, and because he is the only type 1 diabetic currently in the league (I have the disease)

I collect Acie Law since I remember seeing him be a very clutch and fun player in college - hopefully he will get more minutes soon in the NBA

I collect LeBron since he is such an exciting and dynamic superstar and hasn't done anything (yet) to annoy me too much like some other stars have

And I collect the OKC Thunder since they are the closest thing to a home team I have in SW Missouri

What's really the double-whammy for me is that a player from my favorite college (LSU) went to a player on my favorite team (The Celtics) . That may sound odd. I live in Louisiana but most of my family is in Mass. so I'm there all the time. If he left the Celtics, I would still collect him.

For me I either collect players which I have a great deal of respect for and made an impact on the game during their time in the game or I collect my favorite cards featuring the teams I enjoy. In either case I really don't have any issue regretting collecting specific cards. Sure, the rosters change and players may move but I still have their card from when they were on my favorite team.

The reason i collect certain players are because the play for my favorite team. And for the others it's because i followed them in college or they were just great players.
