    Iraq Withdrawal

WASHINGTON - The United States plans to withdraw most of its troops from Iraq by August 2010, 19 months after President Barack Obama's inauguration, according to administration officials.

The withdrawal plan would fulfill one of Obama's central campaign pledges, albeit a little more slowly than he promised. He said he would withdraw troops within 16 months, roughly one brigade a month from the time of his Jan. 20 inauguration.

A further withdrawal will take place before December 2011, the period by which the U.S. agreed with Iraq to remove all American troops

A question for everybody related to this: Obama also announced a troop increase in Afghanistan...how do people feel about withdrawing from Iraq while at the same time sending more troops to Afghanistan?

I know that the Iraqi people are pushing for the withdrawal. But from a stictly military standpoint I would much rather have a presence in Iraq than Afghanistan.

Afghanistan is of no value whatsoever and I think we need to get out of there as soon as possible.

I'm opposed to a troop increase, but Obama has to clean up Bush's war somehow. We never should have taken away primary focus off of Afghanistan. Much of what we accomplished in the first couple of years has been wiped out recently. Hence, troop increase.

Why is Iraq more important and why does Afghanistan have no value?

Afghanistan has no natural resources. Iraq has the ability for a self sustaining government.

When we got to Afghanistan it was poor and it will be poor once again when we leave and I don't see any real way around that.

This is a war on terror. Not a war for resources (although some think we went to Iraq just for oil).

Afghanistan harbors more terrorists than Iraq. Afghanistan is the base for Al Qaeda, Taliban, and more.

Just throwing out my opinion. You can have your own. :)

If we want to attack where the terrorist are we will attack Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, or Iran.

Most of the fighters in Afghanistan are coming from Pakistan right now.

We have done what we went there to do. And nothing else can be accomplished there just ask the Russians.

You know I completely agree with this statement.

If the terrorist are coming from countries A, B, C, D to meet up and recieve training in country E, we should wage war with countries A, B, C, D and ignore country E. It's a great idea to spread our army thiner and endanger millions of innocent people who are not terrorists who live in countries A, B, C, D.
