    The Detroit Pistons Thread

Well, Darko will add a lot of hype to the pistons. I hope he is as good as he is supposed to be. Cliff Robinson, Corliss Williamson, and Micheal Curry should be traded. They should trade those three to the nuggets for nene hilario :). any other thoughts?

    BTW- first basketball post :D

I heard somewhere last night that Larry Brown is really pushing to draft Carmelo(but i don't think Joe will have that), and he is also looking to get rid of Rip Hamilton, Corliss Williamson, Jon Barry, and Cliff Robinson, and bring in his own people. We'll see what happens though.

I agree. I don't see what Brown has done, to make him that great, for the Pistons to fire someone who did such an excelent job. Carlile beat Brown in the playoffs this year, wiht arguably less talent. Brown is a very good NBA coach, but he's never won it all, and doesn't stay with a team for awile. Carlilse is still very young, and deserved better.

Kind of a bad rumor, but i heard the Pistons and Cavs were discussing Mehmet Ohkur, Tayshaun Prince, and Chucky Atkins for Ricky Davis.

    Hamilton talks begin

    Hamilton talks begin

Pistons hope to sign their top scorer to long-term contract

By Chris McCosky / The Detroit News
AUBURN HILLS -- The Pistons today will begin negotiations in earnest to re-sign Richard Hamilton, a restricted free agent.

The Pistons gave Hamilton a qualifying offer Monday, 150 percent of last year's salary ($2.7 million), which gives them the right to match any offer from any other team.

Pistons President Joe Dumars has made it clear that re-signing Hamilton to a long-term deal was a top priority.

"No question, we want him here," Dumars said last week, adding that preliminary discussions with Hamilton's agent, Leon Rose, were encouraging.

Rose did not return phone calls Monday.

"We are not anticipating any snags," said John Hammond, the Pistons' vice president of basketball. "Our plan is to make him a long-term commitment. We hope it will be a win-win situation for both Rip and us."

The qualifying offer is just a formality and in no way reflects the Pistons' starting point in contract negotiations. It is expected that Hamilton will be offered a six-year deal, worth slightly more than the $34.1 million contract given to Chauncey Billups last season.

Hamilton, a first-round pick out of Connecticut in 1999, led the Pistons in scoring, averaging 19.7 points playing in all 82 regular-season games. He was the Pistons' leading scorer in the playoffs as well, averaging 22.5 points.
