Card Shop Owners
If any of y'all own a sports card shop in a small town, how much money do you make per month? I am thinking of opening one in my town -- there's only about 30,000 people in my area -- and I want to know how much I can expect to make.

What dealers make and what new dealers make are 2 different things, no matter if it is in a small town or not.
Starting up a hobby shop usually has a high startup cost if the only thing you are bringing in is your expertise in cards and some singles to sell. Assuming you will be trying to get a direct account the actual cards companies, they expect good credit, a tax ID #, references, and various ways for you to prove to them you own or rent a brick and morter shop. So all in all, you will need a credit card with large enough credit limit to get the products you need from these companies.
Check the rent or monthly payment in the storespace you plan to occupy. If rent is the way you go, make sure if the rent covers utilities(water, electric). Once you figured out your fixed costs, you have a start on what kind of business you will nedd to do to become profitable.
I hope some of this helps. I live in a town of 1100, and about 30,000 within a 20 mile radius. A guy started a hobby shop in my town a year ago and was getting alot of people at first. A year later, he closed down because IMO he saw $$$$ and $$$$ only. Successful small town hobby dealers show gratitude and appreciation towards their customers rather than rake their wallets of money. This guy knew nothing of sports, sold 16 yr old kids $90 boxes of cards and always badgered them to open up their boxes there and then "buy" up their inserts for almost nothing. All the while not a smile or thanks for his customers patronage to his store. Well, people saw that, and his customers went elsewhere.
