Where's the card recession?
Everything in this country is losing money and going down yet prices on cards are still very high, box prices are going up. Will prices ever drop or is it the fact that it's a hobby going to keep the prices. If you think of it as a collectible or investment, cars and houses are going down.

I guess there isn't a card recession. I mean if they feel that they can raise the prices on boxes, then they probably aren't losing money. It's just like the video game industry where they dont see a recession happening

In terms of percentages the prices have dropped. The "price guides" still don't reflect the current market values which further proves the assertion that the guides are out of touch. In one of my blogs I documented the search for my Jordan RC. When I started, the average selling price was $1,300. By the time I bought it, the average price was $1,000. $300 drop for a high end RC might not sound like much, but it's actually a 24% decrease. thepit.com posts their PSA graded sales on a simple line graph. There are not many cards on the plus side. Some actually show dramatic drops.
There are exceptions, but the recession is reaching into the card hobby.

For the newest stuff, the companies are making less product...demand determines costs.
As for the older stuff, we all know how addicting this hobby is...there are some great deals to be had but my guess is that collectors have reduced their spending in other areas of life and maintained (for the most part) their hobby budgets.

I would argue that before the recession UD and Topps made sports cards a rich man's hobby. Therefore, it wouldn't be quite as effected by the recession as most industries. Just my 2 cents.
