Haven't read the graphic novel, but I've got tickets to see it so I'm going to see it! I'm a bit excited actually. Critic reviews have been solid. I think alot of the negative reviews are pure rubbish like the one shown in the OP.

It's got 65% on RottenTomatoes.com...128 Fresh (good) and 70 Rotten (bad). The consensus:
Gritty and visually striking, Watchmen is a faithful adaptation of Alan Moore's graphic novel, but its complex narrative structure may make it difficult for it to appeal to viewers not already familiar with the source material.
So again, it's extremely faithful to the graphic novel...and basically they're saying it's not dumbed down enough for the masses. Sounds like a good thing to me.

I thought it was good. Nothing amazing and didn't have me as excited while watching as 300 did...however the 2 hour 30 minutes+ went by fast. It was an enjoyable flick.

saw it last night, gave it an 8.5/10
was pretty good - good action scenes, a lot of gore though.
there's such themes as rape, murder, blue glowing nudity, and a few sex scenes.
be prepared to yawn through the first 20 minutes.
there's a montage of the early 1900's to the 1980's where it takes place, which were all lousy reinactments (showing war, hippies, JFK assassination, hookers, and most boring of all...... old photos and the old Watchmen who had retired.... all that stuff) with lousy, slow music (yodelling and all).........
so be prepared to yawn.
after that, it seemed more of a mystery/suspense movie at times.
overall, pretty good :)

I can't wait to see it! I don't read reviews, though. They give way too much away. I like walking into a movie knowing as little about the plot as possible.
I don't think I'll get to it this weekend, but hopefully next.

With this one, I already know the whole story, so nothing is given away by reading the reviews. I don't usually read too many either...I'm a very good judge of movies based on pre-release info, I've only been wrong a couple of times, so I usually just go on that.

I saw it last night and thought it was pretty good. I think it was pretty well made and you'll probably like it so definitely go see it instead of being discouraged by critics

I just saw the movie and agree with the review. I didn't read the graphic novel yet. I was saving that for after I saw the movie, so I'll pick it up this weekend.
That said, I did have a tough time getting into the movie because I couldn't get into the characters. At least not right away. It did take a while to even get a grasp on who the Watchmen were collectively and why they had been established. Once got a better handle on these things, the movie got better. Overall, I did like the movie. The visuals were amazing (although we could have done without the full front-shots of Dr. Manhattan- lol) I only wish they could have figured out a way to introduce some of the basic information a little earlier in the story.
OnePimpTiger: Interested to hear your thoughts if you've seen it yet.

I actually haven't seen it yet...not for lack of trying though. Me and the wife were primed to go last Friday...got a babysitter, I called the theater at 6PM to confirm the start time, 7PM. We get there at 6:50PM, not even an hour later, and the start time had changed to 8PM...but our babysitter was not able to stay that late, so we couldn't watch it. I've never wanted to burn a building down so bad in all my life.
