Newbie question: retail boxes
Hey, folks.
Back when I was into basketball cards, we had a store down the street from school that specialized in trading cards where I could pick everything I needed up from. Amongst other things, I used to buy boxes from here.
Fast forward 7 years or so, and "Treasure Island" is gone, and I don't know of any place specializing in trading cards. Until I find one, I'm looking to buy a box.
I always noticed that Target sold boxes of basketball cards, but a friend of mine said there's a difference between the boxes that Target sells and the boxes you'll find in trading card stores.
Is this true? And is it worth it at all to purchase the retail box at Target?

Retail has much worse odds of Autos/GU's and quality hits versus Hobby which is more money but better quality and quantity...
The other retail "blasters" (boxes) i'd suggest from the 2008-09 season is
Topps Chrome, Topps Treasury, or Bowman Draft Picks and Stars, otherwise i'd stay away from retail..Hidden Content

I'd avoid retail all together
Buy a hobby box off ebay or an online dealer (dacardworld or blowoutcards) rather than a retail box

If you do buy retail, make sure it hasn't been opened and resealed - easy way to tell is if it's an Upper Deck product, the plastic wrap will have UD logos on it...some people (employees) open the boxes and take out the good cards, then reseal them...illegal as heck, but that doesn't stop them!

not just employees. i have heard stories of customers buying the blasters, taking them home, taking out all the cards, resealing and returning the boxes.
