The smart move is to keep it unripped, no question. Especially now Topps won't be producing NBA cards anymore, and nobody knows if Panini will continue the trend.
Also, keep it away from you at all times. I pulled the same exact card actually (d-will # to 299).... saved it for a while, ripped it in a drunken state only to reveal a Dirk mini card.

DO NOT RIP! Retail rips are actually different than hobby! They have WAY less chance of getting something! It is a little known fact but it is true!

My D-Will from the same print run was pulled from a hobby box. Interesting theory though.

There's less of a chance to get a hit, it isn't a theory
Also, The hobby rips even look different than retail.

Take it easy, we agree on one thing. The OP should not rip the card.
How is this not a theory?
According to beckett Deron Williams only has one type of rip card #'d to 299, so how could they be different? There are different types of rip cards, and some of them might be hobby exclusive (the really thick one's with the logomans ex), but I don't see anything from the checklist to suggest a retail exclusive rip card.
If your question is from the print run they distribute the better rip cards from the print run into hobby packs, well sure that is a possibility. It would be a giant pain in the rear though. I doubt they do this. They probably just insert the rip cards more frequently into the hobby packs, hence the probability is better in hobby vs retail based on the number of cards distributed in each production, not a diabolical plan.
