Use rubbing alchohol. Apply Alchohol to the helmet and then wipe it with a paper towel. The auto will be easily removed.

I used Acetone ("salon strength") from Wal-Greens to remove a Ryan Braun signature. The gold paint pen bled everywhere (he pressed down so hard the valve opened up and gold painted "oosed" all down the bill of the mini-helmet.
I used Q-tips to rub it off... just don't press hard. The last swipe I took in getting the gold off, I pushed down hard to get paint out of a seam and the stick of the Q-tip etched the mini-helmet (like a scratch).

Don't worry about the color of the helmet coming off... unless it's painted or something.
The surface of my Riddell mini-helmet was NOT affected at all (still glossy).

FYI, I got Ryan to autograph the helmet again, in the same spot, the next day at a Brewers signing; This time in Silver Sharpie!, and he said, "there, how's that" (remembered me from the day before).

Ya Braun is the man. Awesome pic you have with him on your profile.
