Danilo Gallinari comtemplating back surgery
NEW YORK -- Knicks rookie Danilo Gallinari has left the team to meet with specialists in Italy and is considering surgery on his ailing back.
Gallinari has been troubled by the back since last summer and met with a fourth surgeon Tuesday in New York. The Knicks allowed him to return home for further opinions and expect him back by Monday.

If he needs surgery, it's better to have it now rather than play through it and risk a worse injury down the road.

Suprising, he was a high lottery pick and now he's going to have serious surgery, hopefully he has a speedy recovery

Danilo Gallinari was the 6th overall pick! What a disappointment. I hate to see Mike D'Ant suffer in NY but he shoulda stuck it out with da SUNS. Imagine if da Knicks woulda picked up on Brook Lopez, Roy Hibbert, or Javale Mcgee. Those players might not have as much upside, but they are solid Centers which the Knicks need. With one of those 3 guys Knicks would have a playoff spot right now.

Brook Lopez is an amazing player - he'll be a star for years to come, I'm sure!

Back problems usually start in the latter stages of a player's career (i.e., Steve Nash), so this is surprising for a guy as young as Danilo.

As one of the resident diehard Kincks fans, I was disappointed when they drafted him, I understand D'Antoni had some ties to the kid through his father, but the organization knew about the back issues almost immediately after summer league started. Seems kinda soft to me, although he is young and plenty of time to recover and become something in the league.
I really think they should have shut him down all year and let him recover, we really have no business anywhere near the playoffs this season. Hopefully it won't be too serious and he can get healthy for next season.
