Pwaldo -- that fellow is nuts!!

while I despise Bulls, and am not a fan of Jordan.. .I'd be nuts to say he wasn't the greatest, or at least #2, of all time.

And this comes from a Magic Johnson and Lakers-loving fan.

Now, had Jordan actually played without taking time off, he'd be right up there, cementing his names on the stats, and making it impossible to not call him #1.

But, I see what others are saying. To play devil's advocate:

First, Bill Russell led the Celtics to 11 titles; Jordan has 6, not that much from Magic's 5.

Second, Kareem is #1 in scoring, Malone #2...Jordan is up there, but not at the top

Third, Jordan was a clutch player, and made the big shots, but then again...he's almost missed many big shots

(remember his classic Nike commercial that went something like this "...I've missed 5000 shots in my career, I've missed 3000 free throws, I've taken and missed 23 game winning shots...but I keep trying...and that is what makes me a winner..."

But there are plenty of clutch players -- Jerry West, Oscar Robertson, Bill Mikan, Magic/Bird, Kobe.

So, you see, there can be arguments as to why Jordan isn't #1.

If you want an analogy -- try the following: "Jerry Rice is the greatest football player of all-time"

Now consider his stats and contributions:

    #1 All-time in TDs overall
#1 all time in receiving TDs
    #1 all time in receptions
#1 all time in yards receiving

    for playoffs -- see above

for super bowl -- see above

1987 NFL MVP (not many WRs get this award)
    1989 NFL Super Bowl MVP
3 Super Bowl Championship teams (and he was an integral part, not just a bench player)

No other player in any other position (QBs, RBs, etc) dominates his respective position than Rice.

I would not say he's the greatest football player, though. He is the greatest wide receiver. I think the greatest all around player was Red Grange or Jim Thorpe. They were AMAZING and nobody even knows about them.

Greg Vaughn. The guy used to be viewed as a good player. He only hit homers and couldn't get on base for a hit. Then the D-Rays gave him a big contract and his numbers slumped. He also got hurt and was eventually was released.
