It all depends what it is. For 50%-60% of BV, you can usually sell auto's at that price. Some RC's also. For GU it's usually around 40% of BV. Then for base and commons it is way less than that. If you are looking to sell or buy some cards, I suggest checking out what they go for on ebay. That is usually a good indication.

If you are selling something other than Gu'd, autos or rookies of players who are not hot, then you wont even get dirt for them. lol
Sad but it's true. I agree with minew's percentages except for GU'd. Unless it's like a rare patch or somebody like Bonds or Pujols then they only sell like 1/3 book. Maybe a bit more but not much.

I've been paying a lot more than dirt lately for some of my Ron Gant cards!! It all depends on how in demand and hard to find it is.

I'll never understand book value. If no one pays or sells the item for what the book value is then what good is bv anyway? It's like the sticker price on a used car.

book value has a big role in trading, its not the biggest factor to me, but it does have a huge role in trading and selling

for example, back in 97 or 98 i was like 11 or 12......worked at my local card shop for packs.......one day i opened a pack of 97 sp top prospects baseball.........

pulled a "destination the show" KERRY WOOD AUTO

the card booked $120.......i sold it for $80 in 98.......the card now books for $50

here are my 3 factors in pricing

    1. reputation (99% of the time its gotta be clean)
    2. how hot the card is
    3. skill and fanfair (how good the player is, and how big of fan base they have)

As far as buying for me, BV has no place in my decision. I have paid $20 for a BV $30 auto, and I have paid $5 for a $50 BV auto. I don't even consider BV when I buy, if I want the card and I have the money I buy it! :)

When I sell, I generally try to sell around what I figure the card is "worth" as far as player value. For instance, if I have a Jamal Lewis auto BV $20 and a Robert Edwards auto BV $20, I would stick a price of between $10-$12 on the Lewis and maybe $3-$4 on the Edwards. It's all about the demand for a player. Now as far as trading goes, e1 does it different, and i will keep my comment to myself on that...lol

    Peace~
