Poll: Clinton has high job approval

Poll: Clinton has high job approval

As Hillary Clinton flies to Mexico for a high-level summit, a new national poll indicates seven in 10 Americans are happy with the job she's doing as secretary of state.

Seventy-one percent of people questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey released Wednesday said they approve of how Clinton is handling her job as America's top diplomat. Fewer than one in four disapprove.

"Nine in 10 Democrats approve of Clinton -- that's no surprise," said Keating Holland, CNN's polling director. "But by a 50 percent to 43 percent margin, Republicans also think she is doing a good job at the State Department. That's an interesting result for a polarizing figure like Clinton."

As surprised as I am to say this, from what I've read, I actually agree that she has done a good job so far...one of the few from the Obama Admin that I think have. The three major things I've noticed from her are a stern, yet non-confrontational approach to North Korea's missile testing, her statements that human rights and environmental issues in China aren't as important right now as the global economy situation, and the fact that she's accepting US' share of the blame in the Mexican drug wars and dedicating time and resources to fighting it.

If she were in Obama's shoes, I don't think she would be doing any better, as her economic policies would probably be similar to his, but in a situation where she isn't addressing the economy and focusing on issues of state, she is much more appealing to me. Of course, we'll have to wait for an actual crisis to arise (or not arise ...that would be the best evidence of a great job she could give) to see how she handles the tough situations and decisions.

I agree that she is doing a better job than i expected. Although, I do wonder how many people who took part, went off name recognition alone. Your typical american has no clue what the secretary of state does so I wonder how they decided if she was doing a good job or not.

I agree, but that could be said about most things polls are taken about...
