That wasnt a rule already? How could they allow a score with 6 men on offense?

It was a technical, but in the past they let the team with 6 players keep the basket.
Now they give the team who had 5 players on the court the option to allow the basket to count, or to take it away.
Which leads me to this....
Why would ANY team actually allow the other team to keep the points?

In crunch time, you might value that minute spent by the opposing team more than two points they scored. Or 30 seconds even. That's all I can think of.

interesting. i wonder if fouls would be nullified as well? say they score with an and one and greg oden gets his 6th foul and they had 6 guys on the court would they take away his foul?

Maybe if the team is down by 15 and the other team is generous enough to let them have the points

Good thing they put the rule in effect - this happened earlier this season, so that must be why they decided to make it an official rule.

You have to wonder how they didn't think of this previously. Anyways, I thought I'd make some joke about how Portland has to have 6 guys to score on Boston, but I decided against it. Lol
