    Back in the 2D days..

I decided to start this thread after realizing from the animated movie thread that I've never seen a 3D animation film.

This is the thread where all of us in our mid twenties or older can reminisce about growing up in a world where cartoons, animated films, and video games were all two-dimensional. Everything changed in 1995 when Toy Story and the PlayStation/Sega Saturn came out and ruined everything

I'll start out with this memory:

Remember how cool it was when Final Fantasy VI came out for the SNES (as Final Fantasy III)? That is one of the most addicting RPGs ever, and the character depth still amazes me every time I break out the GBA Advance version. I could hardly ever rent that game back in the SNES days because it was usually checked out at the local Blockbuster. And yet there are neophytes out there with the gall to insist that FF VII on the 3D PSX was the first "popular" Final Fantasy.

If you aren't into RPGs, they may not be enjoyable for you. But perhaps you have some other memories from the ancient 20th century to share? :)

Mario, Tecmo, and Sonic are all among my faves. The Donkey Kong games were also cool, although I didn't play them as much.

Well, I'm not mid-20s, but I enjoyed playing Sega Genesis - Sonic was fun, and occasionally I'll hook it up and play it just for oldtime's sake :-)
