I worked at Target and would definitely not recommend it, they treat their employees poorly to say the least.

Oh really? i was going to apply there this past christmas season, but found another place first.

Then i was gonna apply there in the summer but i guess i' go else where

for what its worth, I worked for target for 5 years at 3 different stores and it was a great company to work for. they like to promote from within so it is a good place to work for a few years and to move up as high as you want. Obviously not all stores are the same, but Target as a company is pretty good.

dd - How did you go about getting work with the postal service? I go to the P.O. often (naturally, as a card collector, lol). Did you just ask for an application there, or was it something else?

The Target here is pretty tiny, whereas there are two decent-sized Wal-Marts in Joplin. Even so, I think I may have applied there once, but it's getting blurrier in my mind as to where I applied and where I didn't.

I went to the post office today, and after mailing my package, I asked for an application. Not only did they tell me they are not hiring, but they are laying off four employees.

Joplin, Missouri - the land of great employment opportunities

For some reason, I don't think you can apply in person at any PO, because it's a government office - but I'm not sure if that's accurate or not. Never tried at mine, but I may just do that now.

I had wondered about that, but the postal guy I spoke to mentioned how their office over on Main Street (the P.O. itself where I went to is located on another street) wasn't looking at the moment because of lay-offs. He advised me not to go..I'll take his word. In the meantime, I did apply for two more local positions through some online ads, so perhaps those might work out. Even if not, and no matter who might accuse me of not trying if I am still unemployed after a few years, I will not do what the guy in Binghamton did..

Something is bound to work out eventually - there is absolutely no reason to think it won't - it may take time, but eventually something will turn up - that incident in Binghamton was awful.

Not to steal your thread, but I have a neighbor who runs his own lawn service company, that I'm going to see if he is looking for some help, even part time - heck, at this point, I'll take 10 hours a week for now - just want to have something! Maybe there is something like that - a homebased business - that you could try applying at?

I haven't found stuff for a homebased business yet, but my old school is offering a custodial position over the summer for almost $10/hour. I am applying for it:

There's no guarantee I will get it, but it's another shot at something. It definitely beats this other job they are offering anyhow:

    lol!
