A little perspective!
I am a set builder. This morning, following some recent trades, I was putting base cards into sets, putting the sets into boxes and updating my wantlist. When I turned my back, my 13 month old son Logan, got into one of my 'extras' boxes and removed several cards. He promptly sat on the floor and played with a Jakub Voracek Victory rookie card, a Mike Green Black Diamond base card and a M. Nylander Black Diamond base. He ripped, chewed, and threw the cards, all the while laughing his little head off.
It got me thinking about the perceived value we put on cards and the lengths we go to protect them. My point is those will forever be my favorite three "worthless" cards becasue my son, oblivious to the collecting world, gave me a priceless memory. The joy on his face is something I will remember forever.
Enjoy the hobby. I know I will!
TOM
PS Hopefully someday Logan will share my passion for collecting and stop eating cards:-)

LOL...I can relate...I have a 4 year old dauhter who loves to "help" daddy..lol I would take those cards and save them for when Logn gets old enought to know what they are and let him start HIS collection with those beauties. I remember putting Tom Seaver and Nolan Ryan RC's in my bike spokes as a kid and thought that was just the coolest sound ever...man I wish I had all those 70's cards back !
Great little story, thanx for sharing it...and a BIG Welcome to the board if no one has said so already..and be sure to cmb..I have some Flyer cards in there if you're interested !

Loved the story...I think we all started somewhere like that by damaging cards...my early 90s Pro Set were all scratched because the players had "skated" on the floor lol...

Great story, I know I destroyed countless hockey cards when I was a kid (mostly Pro-Set though, so it's okay lol).
Make sure to put some aside for him and when he's old enough I'm sure he will appreciate them instead of eat them :P

My dad could relate to the stories of ruining cards. He told me that he put his Ken Dryden rookie card in his bike spokes. When I told him the approxiamte value someone would have payed for it nowadays, he cringed. But what can you do. When your a kid, all you want is to have fun.
