I agree...I was just looking at the voting and thought that as well. I do love Maverick, but I watched Appaloosa the other day and was very, very impressed. And I'm surprised to see the Assassination of Jesse James doing that well...I think it's heaps better than the new 3:10 to Yuma, but I figured more people would have seen 3:10 and voted for it. Plus, Assassination of Jesse James isn't your typical western to be sure....

i like 310 better than the Jesse James, and i like them both a lot.
to me the overall storyline of 310 is better.

I've tried to get friends to watch jesse james as i think it's a solid flick, but they keep telling me it's too slow and can't get through it. so, I can see how some people may not like it, or take the time to watch the entire thing.

I also think people are just voting off of name and not necessarily if they've seen the movie before, just like w/ the sports movie voting.

I was waiting for this to come out on video - did you read the book? If so, how does it compare?

I really liked 3:10 until the ending. Have you seen the original? I liked the ending in it MUCH better...the new one was a really good movie and stuck to the original very well except for the ending and I think that just left a bad taste in my mouth for it.

The part I bolded about Jesse James is exactly why I think a lot of people don't/won't like it. People today want something happening all the time, constant action and that movie definitely doesn't have it. I like movies like that though, that take their time and aren't rushed.

I didn't read the book, I might have to now though. I'm sure it's probably not as good, the movie never is. If the book is as much better as it usually is, it must be one great book. It's on DVD now by the way, I watched it a few weeks ago on DVD.

i agree w/ you on the new 310, but it is still an amazing movie IMO

you are correct about Jesse James, it is not your typical western and if you go into it expecting nonstop action, then you will be sorely disappointed.

It's a fantastic book - which is why I asked. I'm admittedly a huge Robert Parker fan, so I'll say that off the bat. I love the way he uses language, and this book was no different. The sequel (Resolution) was just about as good.


I'll check it out as soon as my library has it freed up. The casting seems dead on with how I imagined the characters too.

As for casting, I didn't like Renee Zellweger as Ally, but I haven't liked her in anything since Empire Records. But Ed Harris, Viggo, and Jeremy Irons are all great in it...of course, I'm a fan of all three of them anyway, but I think they did really, really well.

Tombstone is one of my all time fav movies for any genre of film...I remember watching it when it first came out (never watched westerns before) and I just loved it! I made all my friends watch it, I always mention it as one of my favorites....Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday is simply amazing!

As for another genre to cover - action comedy, like Lethal Weapon, Rush Hour, etc? Or would that be too broad?
