how much value do you add for a three color patch with stitching?
for example, it's an 08/09 artifacts frozen artifacts jersey/patch combo silver /35.
it's a very nice patch , 3 colors probably 60%/25%/15% and stitching. is there kind of a standard in adding a little more value due to a nice patch like this, for instance say a multiplier for simply 3 colors vs 2?
thanks

Who are the players? Depending on the tier, you may get not a lot extra to quite a bit extra. There has been a fair amount of discussion lately regarding multipliers on swatches/patches/cards #'d to jersey, and folks are generally moving in the direction against their usage.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

I find that 3 is the standard and 1 or 2 colour get less value. Not in all cases but most of the time

a solid 3+ color/breaks adds at least 40% to the overall value

It depends on who the player is, from what team. Even what the set is. You get a really wild looking patch from The Cup.... people will probably pay a bit of a premium. Especially on the Rookies.
Obviously people are going to prefer a 3 color patch to a single color patch..... but you probably won't get them to pay pay full BV for either. Not so much of a mark up...... more like less of a mark down.

Really I dont think you could get as much as you would think. Your best bet is to go with a Hossa fa.
Hossa doesnt get alot of hobby love, hes a great player, just not one of the higher end sellers.
Also, theres 2 things about the card ....
1 - Ink sells .... I dont see any on this card.
2 - Atlanta swatches, pictured in Pittsburgh uniform, says team Detroit.
You could argue that the middle patch is a stunner ( and that it is ) but the person acquiring it could argue that the other patch is not impressive at all. It also makes a big difference on who your asking for in return. Many people only trade higher end guys for higher end guys. You would prob get alot more for the Hossa if your not asking for Crosby / Ovechkin / Kane / Price / Toews / Gretzky / Brodeur / Roy / etc etc. If you do however, ask for players within the same hobby love range as the Hossa, you will prob get more.
Onto the topic started.
People today think patches SHOULD be multi colored, and a simple 3 colors doesnt always give it more BV. On the other hand, I think a 50/50 color patch should just barley hit max BV, and single color patches ( esp. white ) should get 50% - 70% BV. Of course there are exceptions ( for example rookie auto patches with 3+ colors do get almost more sale value on ebay ). I think patch uniqueness is more important than color. There are many 3 color patches now, I think once you start getting over 3 colors, then premium on color should be added. Here are some examples:
Plain 3 color swatch ( would only get premium due to players current market activity and being a RC Au Patch )

Very unique 3 color swatches

Im prob gonna get more trade value on the Ward, seeing as hes a higher impact player and on a team battling in the playoff races. The Jokinen, which I think is a better more unique and noticeable patch ... would still grab a premium, but not due to player or sale value.
Although, sometimes patches dont matter at all. Get a high enough player ( Crosby / Ovechkin / Gretzky / etc ) and the swatch color doesnt really matter at all, BV will still be current BV. I dont think anyone is going to expect me to trade this at 50% BV due to the 1 color swatch.

There are so many different opinions on swatch multiplying. There are 2 things I try and keep in mind when making deals with unique colorful swatches.
1 - Would i trade for "X" premium on this card if the trade were the other way around.
2 - How would I feel when im interested in card "X" at 50BV, and the trader wants 2X + that.Last edited by canucksfan007; 04-02-2009 at 05:29 PM.
