    Limited cards

I was curious if anyone has ever tried to get all the cards of a certain player from a limited set.

For example, Vesa Toskala's 2008-09 SP Game Used Triple Authentic Fabrics Gold is numbered to 25. Do you think it's a worthwhile goal to get all 25 of those cards? That's just an example of a player. It could be any player.

Would that be a lofty goal?
Would that be a selfish thing to do?
Is that something that you've ever thought of doing?

It is next to impossible. I tried doing it once and 4 cards of the 25 hit Ebay. What you need to consider is that there are always going to be boxes that go unopened, or cards that get pulled and put in a shoe box or get sold off at shows, that you will never get a chance at. I have researched quite a bit on this, and the stuff on Ebay usually accounts for between 40-60% of production run, meaning almost half of the product never becomes available to most people. Using these simple percentages, you would have to be incredibly lucky to have even 15 cards from a 25 card print run show up. Not to mention there is still always the risk that you get a bunch, and then a hardcore collector outbids you once, ruining your chance.

I'm doing it, from 2008 january, two is incoming, I'm here. Maybe not the greatest players, but they are great looking together :)

It will be hard, because I know another two cards owner, but it will be a lot $$$ to get from them, so I leave them in the end. I think if you make the right offer, and you need it, you can get everything.

The other thing, I've never seen /10 at another collectors so they can be in the boxes, or UD never released them.

It has been done before, it is very hard to do. To "pull a Quincy" (in reference to a famous trader that has done it) is a very difficult task. You need to be lucky, as cards of a very limited print run often end up never seeing the light of day on eBay or trading sites; you need to have pockets, as SSP'd cards tend to sell rather well regardless of who the player is; and you have to really want it.

I've got two ongoing projects right now, both involving Josh Gorges. I've got 2 of the 5 SPGU Rookie Exclusives Silver autos, and 5 of the 10 07-08 Upper Deck High Gloss cards. And yet I still can't find a single OPC Rookie Showdown Rainbow /100 of his!

Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

I tried with a Bill Ranford card from Artifacts back in 05-06. It was a patch card #/5. I won one on an auction.... then won a second auction by mistake (had been bidding on both of them, but whatever my current top bid on the 2nd one was at, stood as the winner).

After that I thought "why not try and get all 5?". I got one more of them.... and havn't seen another one since.

Wouldn't it drive up the value of the card? I would think that if one collector owned every card then supply would go down to 0 and the price would therefore increase. Of course I wouldn't expect beckett to account for each card but hypothetically speaking...

Beckett (at least the book itself) rarely, if ever, put any kind of value on limited cards. More often than not they're just too scarce to put a value on.
