We Have a Kostitsyn Whale Sighting!
Many of us never thought we would see the day that any version of this card would be produced:
Andrei Kostitsyn 05-06 The Cup Gold Rainbow
Now, I still haven't seen any of the regular /249 versions, but it is amazing to actually see this card live.
For those who don't know the story, back in '06 when the first-ever released of The Cup was produced, Kostitsyn was a redemption. Reportedly, he had signed all the cards but, depending on the version of the story, his agent either lost them or the cards were stolen in the mail. When UD contacted him to sign replacements he supposedly said, "No thanks." For the next two years there was not another Andrei Kostitsyn hard-signed auto, though there were plenty of sticker autos out there.
Flash forward to early 2009. The Canadiens Centennial set was released, and included in it was the first hard-signed Kostitsyn card since SP Authentic. They must have had Andrei sign his Cup RCs at that time, as I doubt he would have been scheduled for two separate sessions.
So there we have it: three years after The Cup was originally produced, the Andrei Kostitsyn rookies are now LIVE!
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

That is the first Cup auto card where the signature extends beyond the signing surface to the actual card front itself.

Two regular /199 versions are now on the Bay as well. One is in auction form (tremendous patch!) and the other is a $400 BIN, no best offer. He likely won't get it, but stranger things have happened.

Have seen quite a few show them selves. a few of the golds and a 2 of the /199. all have the same ugly sig though. he must have gotten tired of signing the same set of cards 2-3 times. but who can blame him.
