U.S. too soft on crime?
One of my favorite TV shows is the "First 48." It is on A&E and can be considered a reality TV show. Each episodes shows one or two crime related deaths and the homicide detectives that investigate them. The chance of solving a crime falls dramatically if the police don't get a lead within the first 48 hours, thus the name.
I would say that 95% of the time the person committing the crime should NEVER been left out of prison. I've watched about 40 episodes of the show and almost every person that they catch (who usually admits to the crime) has a criminal record a mile long. They are life long criminals that are let back on the street due to budget cuts, bleeding heart lawyers or other reasons. The victims are not always innocent, but if our criminal justice system worked would likely be alive today. There are thousands and thousands of people on our streets that are dangerous and should have never been let out of prison. I feel that our state and federal governments has failed us. At the same time our government is pushing for tougher gun laws that ONLY law abiding citizens will follow. Not only is our government letting out the criminals onto the streets they (mostly one side of the isle) work night and day to disarm us.
Thoughts?

I think it's counteracted by you and people like you working night and day to destroy the United States and replace it with a theocratic, totalitarian military police state, Sunny Jim.

No I do not believe the US to be too soft on crime, I believe the US to be rather backwards in its justice system. They flood the prisons with people convicted of marijuana possession, distribution, etc, then when the rapist or child molester is sentenced there is no place for them. There are problems on both sides of the justice system. Bad cops, bad lawyers, bad judges all out playing their own game.

The city I live in has far too many freed child molesters for comfort..we have a database civilians can search to see sex offenders who live near them, and there were many more sex offenders here than I imagined. Many of these people get more lenient sentences than those who possess marijuana. While many of our jails are already overcrowded, I'd certainly rather see child molesters there than people selling or using marijuana!

We have that here too. Did a check one day and was surprised to see the number of child sex offenders and sex offenders in the area. The "war on drugs" is an absolute joke while the vile criminals, rapists and child sex offenders, manage to walk the streets. Total backwards chaos.

All of you guys have expressed some good points. The government needs to prioritize at this moment and send to jail people with seriuos crimes like murder, robbery, rape and not send people for possesion, DUI or something like that. The latters can be canalized ussing other means.
