I like the idea of bv when trading...its when you get to selling and soooo many people want to by 15-30% of bv then....thats when i get angry :)

its an interesting topic that could be discussed at great length. i often wonder if ebay could eventually end becketts PG need (when after all, a card is only worth what a person is willing to buy it at). I dont see beckett PG ever being "shut-down" because of ebay or other auction sites and i do agree, its a great tool when trading.
however, does beckett effect ebay SV more than others think?
take for instance a matt ryan auto: if it's BV at $200, then more than likely the card will sell close to half book, that being $100. however, not every ryan auto sells for $100 and this is because not every ryan books at $200. so beckett prices do effect SV/MV.
one thing i question; how does beckett figure prices!?!?!? EX: Dea.Williams did amazing this past season, but his 06 contenders BV is $60, but slaton's is $100??? so does beckett focus on the "hot" and "now" players???
another question; OPG and the magazine version differ in price; so which is correct? the same slaton contenders in the mag is $100, but OPG is $80. i have gotten into a few arguements with people over the difference of pricing (before we had learned there was a difference between OPG/mag). when does OPG get updated?
just my thoughts...

The guides are good for your basic cards (single color high #'d gu, autos of borderline HOF players or worse, inserts, and older rookie cards), but if I'm trading mid-higher end stuff (normally if the card books over $40) it's worth my time to look them up on eBay to see what they might sell for before I pull off a trade.
Some of Beckett's newer rookie prices are outdated. Even last year's issue has a 98 Chrome Cust RC at $8 (same as Jimmy Rollins), Marcus Thames at $6, and many more baffling prices

BV is useful when you are trading between sports, because the SV of two cards with the same BV will be different depending on which sport is going on right then,
For example, a $50 BV football card probably has a lower SV than a $50 BV basketball or baseball card now that the baseball season has started.
But yeah i would also like to know how beckett gets their prices...

Beckett has a guy type a bunch of numbers into a computer and they print them on paper. As simple as that

Well yeah but I meant more like if he is in a bad mood do the prices go up? To spite the buyers? Or do they go down to mess up the sellers? And if he is in a good mood? And what if that guy is sick? SO MANY VARIABLES!
