I personally feel that ebay is ruining the hobby and affecting Book Value and Sale Value. People us ebay as a guide because it is the cheapest. I hate getting low balled when selling cards because something similar sells for cheap on ebay. I feel ebay is the most un-safe way to buy cards. More risk, the lower the price.

I think Beckett meant their BV to be the highest sale price when they started but over the years, it's been a consensus that collectors dont follow that BV anymore.

Even in hobby shops etc, sellers ask for 50% book value which is around at the selling price.

I really dont have much problem with BV and SV because I think they started to work out pretty well.

Beckett cannot follow every single card and track selling prices. I know sometimes SV is more than BV, but it is not so frequent enough imo.

And I have no problem with ebay either, I was able to buy some of the rarest cards off ebay. If it wasnt for ebay, I would have never even seen that card.

Yeah, it really depends on the card and what people are really willing to trade/pay for it.

For me, I've always looked at a BV price as the PEAK at which that card sold at when it was first released, not necessarily the average, and that it really only needs to be changed if there is a dramatic increase or decrease in the card's value. Because honestly, do you realize how tedious it would be to keep track of the value of each and every individual card out there on a monthly or even a yearly basis? It just sounds like pointless work for something really not that important, and honestly, I think beckett is doing an okay job at keeping track of the values.

But personally, I always prefer ebay SV prices for most common base, insert, jersey, and auto cards. Since I think that is the best indicator of what people are actually willing to pay for it.

You made the comment that some /10 cards have sold but thats the point with a print run of only ten what if one sold for 500 bucks because of two collectors wanting the same thing but the next sold for 50 bucks because one of the bidders has been eliminated. the Ranges are so far apart its hard to give an accurate BV or even SV for that matter. Its easier to price more abundant cards than the lowerprint runs for scenarios like this.

bv is only relevant for a graded mint card

otherwise sv is far more useful.
