    Top goalie now awaits Wings

    BY Helene St. James

CHICAGO -- The big danger, in the NHL playoffs, is running across a hot goalie. That's the exact scenario that materialized for the Red Wings on Sunday night, when the last game of the regular season set up a first-round date with the Blue Jackets.

That does mean the Wings get to do something unusual, which is play an early playoff series within their own time zone against a team 45 minutes away by plane -- a lot easier on their bodies than the wear and tear of traveling to the West Coast. But it also means battling one Steve Mason, a 6-foot-4, 200-pound-plus rookie who delivered the league's second-best goals-against average, 2.29, and finished in the top 10 among goalies with 33 victories.

Yawn No offense, No power play, = Mason can't make up for that gap even if he has 7 amazing games, not even a question wings will win this.

ok, we'll see. But 8 goals seems like more than no offense to me.

I am not partial to either team involved here (although I certainly would like to see an upset)

I think its funny how confident the wings fans are right now...

Is there a chance they destroy the jackets...yes

Is there a chance they get taken out by the jackets...yes

Columbus is as hot a team as any lately, and more than once this season the goaltending of detroit has been questionable (to put it mildly)

Like I said, I dont have much of an opinion either way..

just seems odd that all detroit fans are looking at round 2, rather than considering the fact that they are playing a potentially dangerous team in round 1..
