Wheat Kings Off To Eastern Final

Brandon, Manitoba -- The Brandon Wheat Kings have advanced to the Western Hockey League's Eastern Conference Final.
18-year old defenceman Colby Robak picked an opportune time to score his first ever WHL hat trick Friday night, in leading the Wheat Kings to a 6-2 victory and a four game sweep of their best of seven WHL Eastern Conference Semi-Final series against t he Medicine Hat Tigers.
“I don't think that I've scored three goals in a game since pee wee,“ the Gilbert Plains Manitoba product said after the game.
With the win before a sold out crowd of over 5,400, the Wheat Kings advance to the Eastern Final for the first time since 2005. Brandon will now meet the Calgary Hitmen, who swept the Lethbridge Hurricanes four games to nothing in their best of seven affair.
Robak's first goal - with 26 seconds remaining in the opening period - proved to be the game winner as the Wheat Kings battled back from 1-0 and 2-1 first period breaks.

Both Brandon and Calgary are 8-0 in the playoffs and combine for 5 of the top 15 scorers in the playoffs despite only playing 8 games, as well as the top 10 for plus/minus in the playoffs. Calgary's goalie Martin Jones leads the league with a 0.86 GAA and a .957 SV% and 2 shutouts while Brandon's Andrew Hayes is 6th in the league with a GAA of 2.61 and 8th in the league with a .904 SV%. Brandon's top scorer is Brayden Schenn (brother of Toronto Maple Leaf Luke Schenn) who has 6G, 9A for 15 PTS and a +11 rating in 8 games, while for Calgary it's Joel Broda who has 6G, 6A for 12 PTS and a +12 rating in 8 games. Schenn is undrafted (eligible for the upcoming draft) while Broda is a 5th round pick of the Washington Capitals. Should be a great series and I hope to make it to games 3 and 4
