Post Upper Deck Signs Derek Jeter to Exclusive Deal

The Upper Deck Company, LLC announced the signing of Yankees Captain Derek Jeter to an exclusive multi-year agreement to represent the company’s baseball card line of products. Jeter, a career post-season .314 hitter and four-time World Series Champion, has agreed to a multi-year exclusive trading card collectibles agreement with Upper Deck that includes game-used equipment trading cards, autographed cards, premium deals, packaging and promotional rights.

“Every kid who plays sports dreams of making a big play in the World Series, and being on a winning team like the Yankees. Today, I’ve joined another world-class team, Upper Deck, and am pleased to be in the company of the other great athletes representing their products,” said Derek Jeter.

Other Upper Deck Spokesmen include Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Kevin Garnett, Yao Ming, Ichiro Suzuki, Ken Griffey, Jr., and Annika Sorenstam to name a few.

“Upper Deck is widely known for producing the most collectible and innovative trading cards and memorabilia in the world. Derek Jeter’s exclusive relationship with Upper Deck is a fantastic opportunity to bring exciting trading card products to fans and collectors worldwide,” says Group Sports Brand Manager Kerri Stockholm.

Derek Jeter, an accomplished shortstop and only the 11th player in the ball club’s history to be named captain, has been instrumental in the success and return to glory of Yankees teams of the last decade. Jeter has appeared in 99 post-season games, has a career October slugging percentage of .469, and has played in five All-Star Games. Since Jeter’s first major league at-bat in 1995, he has compiled more than 1,500 hits, stolen 181 bases, and has played in 1,200 plus games.

Jeter’s inaugural Upper Deck autograph card will appear in SP Authentic and will be on store shelves nationally in early June. In addition, Jeter will be making his packaging debut on Upper Deck’s Sweet Spot in September.

That's impressive, UD now has Ichiro, Matsui, Griffey and Jeter under exclusive deals (to add to Jordan Tiger Woods, LeBron James, etc.)

I may be the only one who thinks so, but Fleer seems to be falling off the map. They've lost Jeter and Bonds in the past year. They also seem to be lagging far behind the rest of the manufactuers in producing cards other collectors want.

UD and Donruss produce the high-end material, while Topps has created several hits with their vintage themes.
