Ken Griffey Jr. 1987 Upper Deck #1

I was wondering i have a card rated by GSA and its the best condition it could be. Why Is there a few on ebay that are selling for 2-300 buy it now and one rated by beckett that is selling for over 800? Mine is just as good as the one from beckett and i just put it on there. Should i send it to bek or what?

I assume that's a 1989 Upper Deck Griffey? And yeah the grading company matters a lot to people. Which ones are going for that much, BGS 9.5?

    Question here it is

Heres the card. My auction http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200334824883

    and another auction
    http://cgi.ebay.com/KEN-GRIFFEY-JR-1989-UPPER-DECK-1-RC-BGS-10-PRISTINE_W0QQitemZ280334841840QQcmdZViewItemQQptZU S_SM_Sports_Cards?hash=item280334841840&_trksid=p3 286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A16|39%3A1|240%3A1 318|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50

My real question is, is there any reason to believe his card may sell for more due to my company that graded it being different. I was under the impression that i used a good company. GRA. thanks

The card itself looks pretty good. Looks like it is well centered with good sharp corners. You are definately not going to get the price that a BGS would get. I would take the card off ebay, send it in to BGS, not BCCG, and get it re-graded. I think if it even came back as a BGS 9.0 it would bring in more money than what that will. Just my opinion though. Good luck....

Yeah man, I am no grading company expert but I have never even heard of the company yours is graded from. A BGS 10 is really rare, especially for the 89 UD Griffey. BGS is one of the best, if not the best grading companies. The company matters a lot man.

Here is one of many guides on the subject.

Some companies produce 10's regularly. As a matter of fact, if you look for GRA graded cards on eBay right now you'll see there are nearly 1000 entries and they are all 10's. http://sports-cards.shop.ebay.com/it...86Q2ec0Q2em282Now google that same company and make your own decision. I would be suspect of anything not from BGS, BCGS, PSA, KSA, GAI, and SCD. These guys have established a good reputation (although PSA has been accused of questionable business practices) and should demand higher values based on the confidence associated with their reputations.

    Good luck-

    bekket

I think i shall resend to bekket. Here is my question though. Will the company hold it against me if it is prepackaged in another companies rating case. Would it be better for me to take it out of the case and then send it? I appreciate the help guys. I may even end up not selling the card, this is a card i purchased for 50 bucks recently i had a good feeling on with a little research hehe. I have quite the collection my grandfather had started for me and know i am in no way selling any of those. I don't think he would mind if i did for only positive reasons, but i think this is the only card. Anyways. Better to unpackage the card i have or send it directly to beckket? thank you guys.

Here is the link to Beckett's FAQ's on re-submission.
    http://www.beckett.com/estore/helpsy...?ArticleId=321
Let's say you wont accept less than a 9. If they dont think the card warrants a 9 they will not remove it from the case. You can specify this upon submission. If It was my card I would submit it without a minimum grade requirement and see what they give you. You may find the card was altered, trimmed, or something else, but I dont think there is much to worry about. It'll cost you about $10 bucks and you'll know.

Current pricing for a Ken Griffy 89 UD #1 is $40 for an 8, $50 for 8.5, $80 and climbing for a 9 MT, and listing $250 for 9.5 to 10. I would expect higher for a 10 but thats according to Beckett Graded Card price guide. Keep us posted. I would be interested to hear how this knock off company compares to Beckett or some other.
