The Genius that is the CNN.com Quick Vote
In case you aren't familiar, CNN.com has a different Quick Vote poll on their front page every day pertaining to one of the days main stories. I am constantly amused and at the same time depressed at the "news" story they choose to focus the Quick Vote on. So I've started this thread to post the best ones, if for no other reason than my own amusement.
Today is a great example. There are relevant, intriguing stories involving the President's reform of the health care industry and North Korea putting two US journalists on trial, but what does CNN think is the best story for the Quick Vote?
Quick Vote
Do you know any women who have left men for women?
Yes
No
Remember folks: It's not news...it's CNN.

News doesn't always have to be serious or political. Besides it's a quick vote. I'd guess by the name that the poll probably doesn't even last an entire day.

So knowing how people feel about women leaving men for other women is more important and/or a better use of CNN resources than knowing how people feel about the President's plan for health care or the fate of two US journalists being tried in North Korea or any other of a number of relevant topics?

I'm not saying that, but I'd bet that they've done multiple polls about those topics in the past. Of course I say that without researching, but assume that they've hit the harder topics like war, economy, stimulus, and north korea already.

I'm sure they have, but the news changes everyday so I'm sure they could find something new to ask about. I would just prefer a news outlet to encourage people to think about relevant topics that are affecting our country instead of mindless drivel that has no bearing on anything...and we wonder why the majority of Americans can name all of the American Idol finalists but have no clue who Ben Bernanke or Mahmoud Ahmadinejad are.

It is just an online poll. If they decide to do a piece on it and devote airtime to it then I would agree, but it is just a poll.

I get that OPT. I'm feed up with the TMZ type culture that most people stick to as far as getting news. I see the draw to that type of news and like it myself, but I feel one should broaden their news education a bit more than just that.

They do have a piece on it, an article that was in the Latest News on CNN.com's front page. I don't watch the tv channel, so I have no idea if they did anything on it there, but it was a featured story for most of the morning.

Part of their Living section though, not in the breaking news section or anything like that. If it showed up on air like I said it would be something to criticize about, at least, if it were during a major news section. They cover entertainment and things of that nature just like the other stations.
